He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump | Psalm 113:7
Love Honduras has been ministering in the garbage dumps of Tegucigalpa for more than 15 years, sharing the hope of the Gospel while providing food and clean water to the men, women, and children who work and live there.
The city’s garbage dump is a source of income for hundreds of people who search through the trash every day looking for recyclable material such as plastic, cardboard, aluminum, and scrap metal they can sell. Families depend on this work to survive and eat every day. The work is physically dangerous. They are regularly exposed to sharp objects, smoke, contaminated objects, disease-carrying insects, rodents, and extreme heat without adequate protective equipment. Children as young as four years old and pregnant women can be seen picking through the garbage regularly.
The heart of Jesus has always been to go where others won’t go, to love those the world overlooks, and to bring hope where others see only despair. Throughout His ministry, Jesus sought out the forgotten, the broken, and the marginalized, offering them dignity, compassion, and the promise of new life.
We believe no one is beyond God’s reach. Even in one of the darkest places imaginable, the light of Christ shines brightly. Every meal served, every bottle of water given, every prayer offered, and every Gospel message shared is a reminder that every person is deeply loved by God and has immeasurable value in His eyes.
