There are an estimated 5,000 sex workers in the Central District of Tegucigalpa, making it the largest concentration of commercial sex workers in the nation of Honduras. Poverty, domestic violence, gang threats, addiction, and lack of employment are among the primary factors that lead many girls and women into prostitution or make them vulnerable to exploitation.
Love Honduras ministers in the red light district of Tegucigalpa regularly, entering bars, hotels, and abandoned buildings where girls and women are being trafficked and exploited. Many women and girls have experienced trauma, abuse, abandonment, coercion, extreme economic hardship, and exploitation. Ministry in these areas focuses on building relationships, sharing the hope of the Gospel, meeting practical needs like giving away meals or hygiene kits, and offering a pathway to restoration and freedom through one of our shelters.
