A ministry bringing hope, healing, and the Gospel message to the people of Honduras and Central America.
Why Honduras? ā The Need, the People, and the Hope
Honduras is a country of extraordinary beauty, rich culture, and resilient people. From its mountains and tropical forests to its coastal communities, Honduras is home to people whose dignity, strength, and hope shine even in the midst of tremendous challenges. Yet behind that beauty are deep and persistent hardships that affect millions of familiesāespecially children.

Poverty That Reaches Beyond Income
Poverty in Honduras is about far more than income. In 2024, approximately 62.9% of Hondurans lived below the countryās national poverty line. For many families, poverty is multidimensional: it means not only limited financial resources, but also reduced access to basic services, opportunities, and stability needed to build a secure future.
For families living in poverty, everyday life can involve difficult choices and limited opportunities. Nutritious food, safe housing, clean water and sanitation, healthcare, education, reliable transportation, electricity, and stable employment may be difficult to accessāparticularly in remote and underserved communities.
When these challenges overlap, they can reinforce one another, creating a cycle that is incredibly difficult to break.
Children often carry the greatest burden.
A child who grows up without adequate nutrition, consistent education, safe housing, or access to healthcare can begin life facing obstacles that are not of their own making. Economic hardship can also leave families more vulnerable to violence, exploitation, trafficking, substance abuse, and other forms of instability. For children and adolescents, the absence of safe relationships, positive role models, and meaningful opportunities can increase their vulnerability to gangs and criminal activity.

A History of Violence and Displacement
Honduras has experienced a long history of serious violence. While the country has made significant progress in reducing homicides in recent years, violence and insecurity remain serious concerns for many families and communities.
For some children and families, these challenges contribute to an agonizing decision: leave home in search of safety, opportunity, or reunification with family.
Children on the move across Central America can face tremendous risks, including violence, trafficking, abuse, exploitation, family separation, interrupted education, and limited access to basic services. Behind the statistics are children carrying backpacks, holding onto their families, and hoping for a future they cannot yet see.
Indigenous Communities: Strength, Heritage, and Hope
Honduras is also home to a rich diversity of Indigenous peoples, each with its own history, language, traditions, and identity. Communities such as the Lenca, Miskito, Pech, Tolupan, Tawahka, and Maya Chāortiā have contributed deeply to the cultural heritage of Honduras for generations.
Yet many Indigenous communitiesāparticularly those in remote and rural areasāface significant barriers to education, healthcare, transportation, clean water, economic opportunity, and other essential services.
These communities should not be defined by what they lack.
They are communities of remarkable resilience, cultural strength, family bonds, and hope. Parents work to provide for their children. Leaders labor to strengthen their communities. Families preserve traditions and pass their heritage to the next generation.
At Love Honduras, we believe every person is created in the image of God and therefore possesses inherent dignity and worth. We seek to come alongside Indigenous communities with humility, respect, and a willingness to listenāpartnering with local leaders, families, and churches to address practical needs, build trusting relationships, strengthen families, create opportunities, and share the hope of Jesus Christ.

Hope That Changes Lives
At Love Honduras, we believe circumstances do not have to define a personās destiny.
That belief shapes the way we serve.
We want to come alongside children, families, and communities with practical help, compassionate relationships, and long-term solutions. By creating safe places for children, strengthening families, supporting education, addressing practical needs, and connecting people with opportunities, we seek to help create pathways toward a healthier and more hopeful future.
But our hope goes deeper than material circumstances.
Our ultimate hope is found in Jesus Christ.
We believe the Gospel calls us not only to speak about Godās love, but to demonstrate itāto care for the vulnerable, protect children, serve families, pursue justice, and walk alongside people through difficult circumstances.
We do not want to simply provide temporary relief. We want to build relationships, invest in people, strengthen families, and work alongside communities so that hope can take root and lasting change can become possible.
Honduras does not have to be defined by poverty, violence, migration, or despair.
It can be defined by the strength of its people, the potential of its children, the restoration of its families, the preservation of its cultures, and the hope found in Christ.
And we believe lasting change begins when people are seenānot simply as statistics or needs, but as individuals created in the image of God, deeply loved by Him and filled with God-given potential.
Together, we can help create opportunities for lasting changeāone child, one family, and one community at a time.
āDefend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy.ā
Psalm 82:3ā4
Who We Are?
Love Honduras is a Christ-centered nonprofit organization, under the umbrella of the Buffalo Dream Center in Buffalo New York, dedicated to reaching the people of Honduras and Central America with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. We believe true transformation happens when people encounter both the love of Christ and the hope found in the Gospel. Our desire is to serve individuals, families, and communities by meeting practical needs, building meaningful relationships, strengthening the local church, and equipping leaders to bring lasting change.
Through everything we do, our mission remains simple: to love people, serve communities, and share the hope of Jesus Christ.
